Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month which celebrates the history, heritage, and contributions of Asian Pacific Americans. In 1978, President Carter officially honored Asian Pacific Americans with an annual week-long event and President George H.W. Bush extended the proclamation to include the entire month of May. In 1997, the Asian or Pacific Islander racial category was revised to Asian and Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander.

This month is a time to acknowledge the achievements of the Asian Pacific American community as well as the hardships and challenges. KCI pays tribute to the generations of Asian Pacific Americans who have enriched America’s history and are instrumental in its future success.
